kellys krazys :: the two year old tantrums

#masterquinn is taking good care of mama tonight.
Master Quinn has been a bit sick these past few days. It started with some mild congestion that could have been hay fever, but then slowly developed into a raspy voice and now, a full-on sick baby. The Q dude does not like to be alone when he’s sick so he’s been co-sleeping with us. Co-sleeping, oh me oh my, what a thing to do. On the one hand we all get to sleep, at least a bit. On the other hand, there is an active toddler kicking me or the Hubs in the back all night long.
And because of the sleeping situation it would seem like the two year old tantrums are being blown way out of proportion. Perhaps partially because they are, perhaps partially because mommy, daddy and baby are all exhausted and perhaps partially just because he’s two.
You parents of toddlers know what I’m talking about. Tired babies = make for moody babies = make for moody parents = make for long days.
But the tantrums, oh the two year old tantrums. They. are. amazing.
-Lots of kicking
-Lots of hitting or attempted hitting
-Lots of no, no, no‘s and the like
-And, LOTS of no naps to boot
Yesterday the Q dude stayed up until 9:30pm. Maybe he was making up for his blessed Easter morning sleep-in until 9:30am, but whatever the reasons it was brutal. I was beyond tired, and I know he had to have been as well, but alas he just kept on keeping on and saying no, no, no whenever we told him it was time for baba go night night. That’s the sign of an upset tummy right there. Not wanting a baba or to go night night.
After the third attempt to put him to sleep we had an ‘episode’ that required the stripping of all of the bedding and putting it in the wash. Which also meant his beloved blankey went in the wash too. Which also meant that there was no way on God’s green earth that he was going to sleep anytime soon. Not without that blanket. After all, it is the only blanket that he’ll allow us to put on him when he’s falling asleep. No matter how chilly it is. (Thank heaven for space heaters)
And so, after a very long day and a very long evening this momma finally gave in and put her head on her baby’s lap and let him stroke her hair while she tried to doze off to the sweet sounds of Mona the Vampire – his new favorite rawr show.
Don’t ask.
Parents, I ask you:
What’s your tantrum handling method?
