Girls Weekend | 11.05.11 | Monterey & Carmel

1. My favorite sister, we’ll call her Christy, because, well, that’s her name. Duh!
Anyway, my favorite sister, Christy, and I just spent the weekend away, sans baby, in Monterey. We took long walks, ate great food and had *gasp* naps! It was strangely blissful and exhausting and exhilarating and reminded me of those days when it was just the hubs and I and we could get up and go and do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted because we didn’t have the cutest baby on the planet strapped to our hips, or backs, or fronts or any other part of our bodies.
But then I was also reminded of how sad I was back then whenever I would pass by a super cute couple toting a baby around and all I REALLY wanted was to tote around a cute baby with my super cute Hubs. Baby pains suck! But then I remember that I DO have the cutest baby on the planet back at Grandma’s house playing with the huge bucket of toys that Grandma keeps around for grand baby visiting time and I was immediately happy again. Such a strange roller coater of emotions I had on this girls weekend away, but I tell you what… it was all worth it!
2. We started it off by checking into the Hotel, The Portola Hotel & Spa, who gave us the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookie to much on while we toted our bags up to the room and got settled in. Then we walked along the pier, ate lunch, walked some more and enjoyed the general scenery. It was nice, but Carmel just about blew my socks off. The old style buildings and shopping district were pretty much amazing. Old style tutor houses and cottages. It was like heaven came down and kissed Carmel.

Thank you heaven.

3. I found the roof of my dreams. Those dreams of living in a little cottage in the woods down by the beach. Yeah, I found the roof for that dream. Intentionally wave, with enough sense to it to make sense while still standing out.

My sister, Christy, was driving the car as we drove past this house and we were both like ‘whoa’, then I was like ‘stop the car!’ as I got out and snapped this picture. From the middle of the street no less. It was the best angle. You would have done the same thing, admit it.

4. We visited the Carmel mission. There was a wedding just ending when we got there so the bells were chiming. It was kinda perfect with the light just so because of the light haze hanging over the bay, and the bells trolling from overhead. Someone had left a program from the event behind and it was just the cutest little pieced together fan with all the action items and who’s who’s called out, plus it was a fan! Score one for the bride and her entourage for thinking up that one.

5. I fell in love with a hat. Kinda weird, I know, but I did. It was $65 so instead of coming home with me it walked all around the store perched just so on the top of my head while I checked out all the trinkets and baubles and had some serious chandelier envy. If I hadn’t already fallen in love with the hat I might have fallen in love with the chandelier.

What did you do/see/smell/taste this weekend?
