declutter 2012 – pantry

I’ve been trying to participate in Tsh’s 2012 declutter project and I’ve actually done a pretty good job of doing the projects, just not documenting them. So the hubs has graciously offered to watch the Q dude for a few minutes while I pound this out. Here I go…

This week’s project was the pantry. Since our house is teeny teeny tiny there is no actual pantry, so I chose to declutter my kitchen cabinet that acts as a bit of a pantry. It was a catch all mess and was driving me nuts, so this project comes just in time.

See what I mean. Absolutely no rhyme or reason to the way things were ‘put away’ it had become a ‘find a spot and shove it in’ space.

First off, I unburied my nice spice shelves and lazy Susan and did a bit of organizing. I didn’t have much to throw away so things were simply shuffled around and made more visible. I have a lovely habit of buying the same thing every time I go to the store only to discover when I get home that I already had it, I just couldn’t see it. So I cleared out the clutter and made everything visible

I moved all of the larger items to the bottom shelf that allows them to all stand up and stack rather nicely. And I finally grouped all the like items together. Chicken broth, peanut butter, tuna cans, beans, etc.

The top shelf houses the majority of our vitamins and such so I grouped like items on the lazy Susan and them stacked the rest to the side. The other half of the top shelf is the ‘random’ area – cupcake tins, that on canister of vegetable broth – just in case- tums, etc.
