I have a little crush on ferry boats. I’ve always wanted to live close enough to the water to be able to ride one on a regular basis. There’s just something soothing about being out on the rocking water, plus the ferry rides are always just long enough to be relaxing while short enough to be an excellent transportation option.
So when I had the chance to hop on a ferry and head over to Waiheke Island I said yes and didn’t look back. I went full out, that whole when in Rome thing. I sat on the top balcony of the ferry the entire way over (and froze my butt off) and even rented a scooter when I landed. It was a blast buzzing all over the island with my tiny scooter. I’m sure I pissed off a few people, I know I didn’t yield a few times at the round about, and I may have left the keys in the ignition and walked away at least once, but I made it out alive!
I fully enjoyed driving on the left side of the road. I might even venture as far as to say I got pretty good at it by the end of the day.
