Food for thought. #lds #virtue
I saw this quote in the Relief Society church newsletter yesterday and couldn’t resist sharing it. I’ve been thinking about the youth quite a bit lately, specifically of the tween female persuasion. Those tween years are tough man. All about exploring likes and dislikes, finding yourself and your ‘crowd’ and what makes you tick versus turn off.
We had a scout auction a few weeks ago that we weren’t able to attend. Eric had signed me up to donate something (wasn’t that so thoughtful of him!) so I dug into my homemade earring box and found 4 pairs that I thought would be great. I later was told that those four pairs of earrings fetched over $100 for the scouts. $100 dollars! It made me all warm and fuzzy to know that my simple talent was so helpful for these boys.
But we’re talking about girls…
I also received the following message – slightly edited to mask any real names and such – which just made my eyes leak like crazy especially since I had just written this post and was already super emotional.
Someone else purchased a pair of your earrings and gave them to my daughter. She is about sixteen, and what she wears is how she seems to define a huge chunk of herself these days. I think it is normal. Anyways, she wore them to school yesterday and she got a ton of compliments on the earrings. She felt beautiful, and that is huge for her! She doesn’t think she is pretty. Weird girl… Anyways, because of YOUR thoughtfulness in donating them….you gave a girl a day to be beautiful! And I’m sure she isn’t the only person you have given an avenue to feel that way. So, thank you so much!

 I mean. Wow.

To all you beautiful, sassy, young women – yes you! – You. Are. Amazing. Don’t ever forget it. And don’t let anyone tell you differently. You are children of God and he loves you and I love you and that’s a whole lot of love.

xoxo

PS. Happy first day of work Eric!!!
