t.y.b.a Hearst Castle

This past weekend I packed up my family and headed down south to the cute little shores of San Simeon and Cambria, CA. We had the pleasure of being carpool during carpool hours and were very happy to reach the outer edges of San Jose where traffic miraculously opened up and stayed clear for the remainder of our voyage. We arrived in Cambria in time to see the twinkle lights turning on in the downtown trees and shop posts. Such a cute little town with a bit of Harry Potter feel, with shops like Seekers and The Squibb House.  We were lucky enough to have booked accommodations in the lovely Cambria Pines Lodge and although the hot tub was less than hot the pool was toasty enough for the both.

My first view of Hearst Castle was one of awe quickly followed by horror as my son threw his toy out the bus window. We did two tours of the castle, the basic and a more in depth one that allowed us access to Mr. Hearst’s private suite, both libraries and the vast expanse of guest rooms (a total of 40) .

The cute little tour guide told us to be sure to select a favorite room, since we would be viewing them all. I found a pretty cute one with the best 1920’s bathroom. But I think in the end my favorite room was the one below.

I am drooling over that butcher block counter top. The 1920’s green Kitchen-Aid and matching cabinets are my new favorite color. They remind me of these pictures.  Did you enjoy my favorite town?
