GO GIANTS!!! In the wake of our kick ace win over Texas (Yes, I really did watch all of the games) I found my self scouring the planet for awesome Giant’s paraphernalia. Lucky for me I didn’t need to look any further than the next cube over. Welcome Euan Rannachan from Euan Art, who drew THE most amazing sketch of Brian Willson. Isn’t it just to die for? I was blown away by the raw emotion he so excellently captured. I have this hanging at my desk and I find myself staring at it at random times of the day. I still can’t get over how well he captured this moment, and I still can’t believe WE WON!!!

Q & A’s from Euan.

Q – What moment inspired you to create this drawing?

A – Tell you the truth I am not a huge fan of baseball. I love going to the games and all that comes with it but the actual sport never really did much for me… until the last World Series. That’s when I discovered Brian Wilson, the Giants cleanup pitcher. Who’s job it was to come in with the games on the line and go to work. I was amazed at this guys nerves of steal and his poise coming into the fray at such an important part of the game. And then the amount of accuracy and composure he would display. I did a little research on the dude and found out that he is quite the character, which made his ability to come in and dominate all the more amazing to me. I guess that’s why I got inspired to do the drawing I did of him. Right after the last pitch in the last game he turned around to give his “x” to the crowed and then screaming spun around to greet the Giants pitcher who was running at him. The split second he spun around with his mouth open was so gripping I knew right then it needed to be illustrated… and I went to work the best I could to portray it the way I saw it.

These amazing black and white’s come from Euan’s Blog where he documents his amazing photography. You can also find his Flickr feed here
Q – What/Who inspires you the most?
A – I have people that I love to look at and inspire me such as: Chase Jarvis, Joe Mcnally, and Dom Bower. But I try and not go too much off of what others are doing. Especially in the photography world… I find that most photographers are very private and hate showing their process and feel like people are always trying to copy them. I really dislike it when I see/experience that, especially in this day and age when you can learn anything online. To see people so worried about others copying them and not going out there and just creating makes me frustrated. The people I named as people that I am influenced by are perfect examples of extremely successful professionals that go above and beyond to show people their process and in turn inspire creativity! There is nothing in this world more exciting to me than inspiring creativity… you never know what you might start.
Q – What is your favorite medium?
A – Hmm that’s a hard question… lol. I guess right now I am really getting back into sketching in my books again. But it changes all the time… Water color, acrylic, oils, DIGITAL… I use my photography to freeze stuff that I later would love to paint…  So I guess if you want to be specific my camera is the tool I use the most.

Q – How long have you been a photographer/artist?
A – I have been an artiest all my life thanks to my Mum who is a very talented artiest in England. Ever since I could walk she would encourage my art and give me plenty of room to express my creativity. Growing up I had sports and art. They were my two staples and when sports finally ended I found myself in Art school.
I took up photography in middle school only to be able to take pictures of stuff to paint or draw. After a couple of years and 100,000’s of photos I started to really understand my camera and what all went into taking good pictures. My photography has slowly taken a life of itself over the past five years and now I find myself on the brink of my first show in December. I will always have my art but photography is really driving my creativity for the time being.

Q – Where do you someday hope to see your artwork?
A – Ooooo… that’s a good question. One that I don’t really know the answer to. All I know is I would LOVE to be paid to do what I love… Money truthfully is not a big issue for me. I find that if you are doing what you like to do and are good at it the money will find you. This has been true so far in my life. My goal for the not so far off future is to have my own gallery, or at least a large part of one someplace that I could display my newest creations.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who lives in the East Bay Euan is having his very first art show at Inkestry in Livermore. You can find Details here.
